
David Sable, B.Sc., M.A., is the Executive Director of the Nova
Scotia Information Technology Human Resources Council (www.ithrsc.ns.ca),
a non-profit association dedicated to increasing the capabilities
of the work force to meet the changing needs of a knowledge-based
economy. David recently directed a federally funded research and
development project to produce OPELS, an Online Performance Evaluation
and Learning Support system, web-based software to determine the
impact of training on performance and productivity (www.opels.ca).
Formerly, as a trainer and education consultant in the corporate
sector, he developed and delivered customized management training
in the United States for ATT, Citibank, Xerox, and Prudential. He
continues to take assignments with management consultants to government
and higher education in Canada and the U.S.
David is also deeply engaged as a part-time faculty member in the
Religious Studies Department of Saint Mary’s University in
Halifax, where he has been teaching Buddhism since 1999. In 2003
David was awarded a university grant to study contemplative practice
in higher education and has presented his work on interactive contemplation
at the Atlantic Association of Universities Teaching Showcase and
several workshops on and off campus. He is engaged in designing two
new innovative, multi-disciplinary courses to be offered in 2005.
David became a teacher and a meditation instructor after completing
three years of preparation and a twelve-week intensive Buddhist seminary
program under the guidance of Ven. Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche (www.shambhala.org).
David previously studied Sanskrit and Comparative Religion at Columbia
University in New York.
David is also a founding member of the Shambhala Institute for Authentic
Leadership (www.shambhalainstitute.org) in Halifax, a non-profit
organization that creates learning environments to support the deeper
understanding and skills leaders need in today's complex world. In
the context of the annual summer program David and has been influenced
by the work of Peter Senge (author of the Fifth Discipline) and Margaret
Wheatley (author of Leadership and the New Science) in organizational
development.
He is a Board Member of the Canadian National Software Human Resource
Council and the Association of Industry Sector Councils in Nova Scotia.
